Developer: Square Enix 1st Production Department In March 2007, Square Enix changed the structure of their company to be project-based. The 1st Production Department was formed from the combination of Square Enix's Tokyo and Osaka development studios in fall 2010, with Shinji Hashimoto as its corporate executive. Despite the name, there were no "2nd" or "3rd" Production Departments at the time, the rest of the corporate structure merely resumed the usual Product Development Division system since the merging with Enix Corporation in 2003. In December 2013, Square Enix would go under another restructure and this team would be merged onto Business Division 1.
Developer: Square Enix Business Division 1 Business Division 1 (第1ビジネス・ディビジョン, Dai Ichi Bijinesu Dibijon?) was an internal development division within Square Enix. It was largely made up of the team behind the Final Fantasy XIII series of games and was formed in 2013 after an internal restructuring. It was meant to continue to put out "mainline" games within the Final Fantasy series. In the mid 2010s this unit began development of Final Fantasy VII Remake. In 2019, following another internal restructuring, Business Division 1 was merged with Business Division 3 and Business Division 4 to form Creative Business Unit I, which inherited all projects, including Final Fantasy VII Remake.
